The Space Inbetween

Updated: Dec 10, 2022

I love color, and the space between; the crisp white space is an invitation to add variation to a painting. When I think about the feeling and message of an image, I think of color and how it feels and flows. All the elements of a painting are sublet messages that allow viewers to immerse themselves in the painting. I usually start with a simple line drawing then add art masking fluid (a gummy solution like rubber cement). This process allows me to be free with the color and water as I create the movement of the image.

"Color possesses me. I don't have to pursue it. It will possess me always, I know it. That is the meaning of this happy hour: Color and I are one. I am a painter."
Paul Klee (1879-1940)

Paul Klee has influenced my love for watercolor and images that represent but do not replicate reality.

Thank you for meeting me in the space in between- where is your space in between?
