After taking a pause this summer from painting, my latest work has finally emerged. In truth, I never truly stop creating. Even when I’m not actively working with my hands, I observe, listen, and let ideas quietly bubble. They wait patiently, growing and forming until they are ready to be brought to life on canvas or paper.
This summer, however, brought an unexpected chapter in my life. I experienced a few strokes in my cerebellum. Thankfully, the outcome was not typical for such an event. I recovered, seemingly untouched physically, but something profound shifted within me. My vivid dreams, which have always inspired me, started to change. Nightly, I began having visitors—people I know, love and deeply miss—who have long since passed. We had conversations that felt so real and deeply connected, as if they were with me again.
One night, a dream unfolded unlike any other. A massive, magnificent cloud appeared before me, alive with breath, color, and twinkling light. It was both ethereal and all-encompassing, and then it spoke. It was God.
The cloud told me I didn’t need to do anything special—just talk. So, I did. And to my astonishment, God spoke back, not in words but in flashes of light. These flashes carried meaning that I understood and responded in kind, speaking back in light. It was an exchange of pure essence beyond words or thought, a profound conversation held in radiant clarity.
This dream birthed my latest painting, The Breath of Hashem. I attempt to capture the indescribable experience of that moment—the swirling colors, the shimmering movement, the infinite love, and the messages that remain etched in my heart and mind. While I may never fully encapsulate the exact essence of this encounter, I will keep painting, reaching for the spectacular light that filled me and illuminated a new path forward in my artistic journey.
This painting reflects the profound truth of that moment: a conversation with the Divine, spoken in light and love. I hope you can feel the movement and the energy within the clouds as they swirl, carrying the breath of Hashem. May this piece invite you to sense the profound connection and infinite love surrounding us all.
