Dancing with the Universe

So much of life is a dance, one step forward, two to the side, and a few steps backward. My paintings are a continuous expression of this dance and search for meaning and understanding.

Last year I consciously chose to push myself to try new things. I challenged myself to say yes, trust the opportunities the universe presented, and add new colors, media, and expressions to my artwork.

As I travelled across the country, I found some of the most amazing places tucked away waiting to be found. On the east side of Crowley Lake (CA) is a magnificent natural wonder that can only be experienced up close by boat or hiking. So, we decided to drive over the rough terrain (my first 4-wheeling adventure) and hike down to the salt columns.

As I stood in the sweltering heat, looking down at the long steep trek down the hill, I knew I could make the two-mile hike down, but I was unsure if I could make it back up. My resolve was being tested, but I pushed forward to the next adventure; I slowly made my way down with some encouragement.

The picture above shows the magical rewards of stepping into the unknown and letting fear step aside. Walking out of the salt pillars and swimming in the warm water was simply enchanting.

After hours of enjoyment in the water, I stood again, looking at the long trek up the hill. This time I picked a short goal to a rock or tree, a sip of water, and the next level. I did not focus on how far I had to go, only on the following short goal. Again, my daughter encouraged me each step of the way.

Climbing up that hill was one of my favorite adventures, a dance I am glad I joined instead of waiting on the sidelines.

My travel adventures have taught me that the universe is constantly opening doors and inviting us to experience the joy of challenge, the pain of steps, and the thrill of defining our boundaries.

My two new collections completed in the past year, Pieces of Light and In the Stars, reflect the challenges and joys of dancing with universal energy and light. It has been my challenge to find the meaning reflected in the vibrant colors and unseen support surrounding us, often unnoticed until circumstances force me to stop and reflect. My paints are a visual journal documenting what is often unspoken but felt deep in the heart.

I would love to hear what you see and feel when you look at the images, colors, and messages.
